Ride on the Tatra Comet

After long years, the High Tatras proudly present the 100-year old Comet again. The Tatra electric railway was given the electric postal wagon in 1913, it was used until 1977. It underwent a renovation and change of speed to 30 km/hr. Comet was used as a snow plough for removing big snowdrifts so a massive “tail” of whirling snow could be seen behind it. This is said to be the reason for its name – Comet. Another version says that it was due to busbar sparking while moving along a frozen traction line. Comet is a remarkable technological monument that was saved from being scrapped by members of the Railway Veteran Club in Poprad.
