Beschreibung

"So let's be happy!" - this is how the Latin title of the world-famous student song "Gaudeamus igitur" is translated into English. Both Giessenand Marburg are university towns. And life in the two half-timbered towns on the River Lahn is correspondingly lively. Giessen is home to a number of highlights such as the Lahnfenster Hessen, through which the underwater world of the Lahn can be explored, as well as the new castle, the Zeughaus and the botanical gardens. You can join in and experiment at the Mathematikum Museum.

The Lahnradweg leads you from Giessen to Gleiberger Land, which is characterised by the striking castle ruins of Gleiberg and Vetzberg. On the way to Marburgthere are several lovely bathing opportunities to cool off on hot days.

Finally, the university town of Marburg, with the ensemble of its old town and the Elisabeth Church and Landgrave's Palace, is without doubt a cultural and historical highlight of this tour.

Wegverlauf

The stage starts on the Lahn side of Giessen's main railway station. From here, the Lahn Cycle Path first leads along the Lahn and past the Giessen Weststadt nature observation platform.

. Even though it goes upstream, you can take it easy today without too many steep climbs. After approx. 1.5 km, you change sides of the Lahn and then cross the motorway. If you are curious, you can visit the wood and technology museum in Wißmar. Hopefully you have your swimming trunks with you? Because you'll find the first swimming opportunity at Lake Wißmar.

Further on, the forest swimming pool at Lollarer Kopf promises to cool you down. Via Lollar and past Ruttershausen and Odenhausen, you now come to Salzböden. A detour into the romantic Salzbödetal valley is worthwhile here. The next villages on the Lahn Cycle Path are Sichertshausen, Bellnhausen and Fronhausen, which you pass through Roth and Argenstein before reaching Niederweimar. The next opportunity for swimming and wakeboarding is at Lake Weimar. The Lahn is crossed at Cappel and the route continues past the Lahnaue campsite. On the Hermann-Cohen-Weg, directly on the banks of the Lahn, you finally reach the lively university town of Marburg.
