Trail of Mäntyjärvi, Peurajärvi Nurmes

In the beginning of the route, the circular trail of Mäntyjärvi lake follows the circular trail of Iso-Valkeinen for about 1km until Mäntyjärvi fireplace and sandy beach. You follow the circle counter-clockwise, and follow the trail along the eastern shoreline of Mäntyjärvi lake. In the northern point of Mäntyjärvi you will see another path, that will lead towards Hiidenportti national park. Follow the route alongside the western shoreline of Mäntyjärvi lake. The route goes through a narrow ridge between Peurajärvi and Mäntyjärvi lakes. The route is marked with an orange dot.

In rainy weather the duckboards and piers can be slippery.

If you make fire, make sure you completely put it out before you leave. Making open fire during windy weather or forest- or grass fire warning is prohibited.

Be aware that the mobile reception might be weak in some areas.

Peurajärvi lake region is located in the border of Nurmes and Sotkamo. You take the highway 75 from Nurmes to Kuhmo. From there you turn left towards Iso-Valkeinen and drive for 14km to the parking lot of Iso-Valkeinen - the address is Porttijoentie 136, Nurmes.

If you start from Mäntyjärvi fire place, you will turn right by the address Porttijoentie 125, drive about 1.3km, turn left and drive another 1.5km until you reach the fire place.

 Iso-Valkeinen parking lot, by Mäntyjärvi fire place or Käärmesärkkä parking lot. Parking is free of charge.

By Mäntyjärvi fireplace there is a child friendly sandy beach.
